Doug MunroeDoug Munroe to receive the Sovereignís Medal for Volunteers

When Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, issued a list of 123 Canadians to be honoured for their excellence, courage or exceptional dedication to service, one name on it was Douglas Munroe, a current 480 member and past-president of our branch.

When the ceremony takes place, the Navy Veteran who served on HMCS Bonaventure, Resolute and Annapolis will receive the Sovereignís Medal for Volunteers in recognition of his 40+ years of service with several Legion branches, including Vincent Massey Branch 164 in Yellowknife and Ottawa-area branches in Stittsville, Barrhaven, and Bellís Corners.

Doug also has made significant contributions at the Provincial Command and Zone levels, earning numerous honours such as The Palm Leaf added to his Meritorious Award for Community/Legion service Ė the highest award the Legion has to offer. When it comes to this latest one, the long-time Perley and Rideau Veteransí Health Centre volunteer says he was ďsurprised. I didnít expect it.Ē No one at our branch is surprised, and we all are very proud of you.

Congratulations Doug!
